‘An angel’: Man uses his surfboard to heroically rescue people stranded amid Hurricane Helen


As stories of heartache and tragedy emerge in the aftermath of Hurricane Helen, heroism is also on full display, with people going out of their way to help their partner.

Marty Thomas is among those who are receiving praise for saving nearly a dozen people and their pets using his surfboard. WTVT-TV reported,

Thomas’ incredible efforts came to a head last week in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida, when the storm struck and some residents found themselves trapped inside their homes and unable to escape.

One of those victims was Anne McIntosh. His house was filled with so much water that the door was not opening.

“The beds were floating,” she said told WTVT-TV“The sofa was floating. My brother and his wife were at the counter.”

When the family started yelling for help, Thomas heard them from down the street, jumped on his surfboard and headed towards them.

“He saved us,” McIntosh told WTVT-TV“He got the door opened. He paddled us across to safety. And walking just like an angel.”

Thomas was able to help others as well.

As for Mackintosh, she was forever grateful for this act of kindness, repeatedly calling Thomas an “angel.”

“He’s walking like an angel,” she said Ongoing“He is now the hero of Indian Rocks Beach. And you do it so beautifully. Thank you. And I love you for it. And you deserve all the good things in life.
