With regard to urban local bodies, the CAG said, if municipal corporations have not followed proper accounting norms then they cannot be allowed to raise resources from the market.

He further said that state governments should focus on capacity building so that accounting and auditing standards for local bodies can be properly followed.

He said that auditing not only increases transparency in the system but also brings economic efficiency in government schemes. He said that results can be achieved only through auditing.
