CrowdStrike shares fell nearly 12% in premarket trading, while Microsoft lost 1.4%.
A massive IT disruption on Friday disrupted operations at companies across a range of industries, with major airlines grounding flights, some broadcasters going off-air and sectors from banking to healthcare hit by systemic problems.
“We deeply regret the impact this has had on customers, passengers and anyone else affected, including our company,” Kurtz said on NBC News’ “Today” show.
“Many customers are rebooting the system and it’s recovering and it will be up and running,” Kurtz said. “It may take some time for some systems that won’t recover automatically.”
CrowdStrike’s “Falcon Sensor” software was causing the Microsoft Windows to crash and display a blue screen, informally known as the “blue screen of death,” according to an alert previously sent by CrowdStrike to its customers, which was reviewed by Reuters.
The travel industry was among the worst hit, with airports around the world reporting delays and system network problems, while banks and financial institutions from Australia and India to South Africa warned customers of disruptions to their services.
