Haryana: 3 independent MLAs withdraw support from Nayab Saini government, join Congress

In a blow to the ruling BJP in Haryana amid the Lok Sabha elections, three independent MLAs on Tuesday announced that they have withdrawn their support to the Nayab Singh Saini-led government in the state.

Three MLAs – Sombir Sangwan, Randhir Golen and Dharampal Gondar – also said they have decided to support the Congress during the elections.

He made this announcement at a press conference held in Rohtak in the presence of former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and state Congress chief Uday Bhan. “We are withdrawing support from the government,” he said. Gounder said, we are extending our support to Congress.

He said, “We have taken this decision on various issues including issues related to farmers.” Speaking to the press, Uday Bhan said, “Three independent MLAs – Sombir Sangwan, Randhir Singh Golen and Dharampal Gondar have withdrawn their support. “Given my support to the BJP government and the Congress.”

“I also want to say that the current strength of the (90-member) Haryana Assembly is 88, out of which the BJP has 40 members. Earlier the BJP government had the support of JJP MLAs and independents, but JJP had also withdrawn its support and now the independents are also leaving.

Reacting to this development, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, “I came to know about it, I saw that report but I do not have information about it… Our people will give you a statement when we get the information.” Even the government is not in danger. I don’t even know whether this news is true or false.”

“Nayab Singh Saini government is now a minority government. Bhan said, “Saini should tender his resignation as he does not have the right to stay even for a minute.” Now, assembly elections should be held immediately, he said.

Congress reaction

Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda said, “The situation in the state (Haryana) is against BJP, change is certain in the state.” BJP government has lost majority. Out of the list of 48 MLAs he had given, some MLAs have resigned as they are contesting the Lok Sabha elections and some independent MLAs have withdrawn their support from BJP and extended their support to Congress. Therefore, minority MLAs have no rights.”
