A week after its launch, Rabbit has released its first over-the-air (OTA) update for R1Its $199 AI device aims to answer questions, identify objects and potentially save you a few clicks by navigating apps on your behalf.

The new OTA update fills some of the bugs that early customers and reviewers discovered. This includes improvements to battery life, which was dropping by minutes during my testing, server connections, music playback, Bluetooth reliability and more.

To receive the update, R1 users can simply turn on their device, plug the USB-C cable to power and connect to the Internet via cellular or Wi-Fi. A few minutes after I did this, an updated UI appeared with a percentage meter. The entire process took about 10 minutes, but your duration may vary.

Here’s everything Rabbit says the OTA update includes:

  • Idle battery performance improved up to 5x
  • Added time zone selection to R1’s settings menu / R1 corrects time zone based on GPS location
  • Rabbit OS has made you more aware of when to use GPS to interrogate your location and how to take advantage of that information
  • Better detection of server connections and releasing of linked resources
  • Improved music playback UI on R1
  • Improved reliability for Bluetooth connectivity
  • Better stability on meeting assistant/recorder for long periods
  • Improved accuracy of time information during conversations

In particular, “idle battery performance” has been improved by up to five times, which fixes one of my biggest problems in the beginning Reviewing R1, Without using the device, the battery will drain faster than any other new gadget I’ve tested. Rabbit did not disclose the root cause of the battery problem, but Rabbit CEO Jesse Leu suggested that his team had found the culprit as soon as possible. on 25th April,

After the update, I’ve noticed a dramatic difference in the R1’s battery life, and for the better. As I write this article while on my morning commute, the R1 remains at 100%, which is a refreshing sight.

Also the R1 shows me an accurate east coast time which is refreshing – the device was previously locked to Pacific time. You can turn on automatic time zone in the R1’s settings, which now has a “Time” option.

Along with each OTA update, Rabbit says the R1 will also receive a “cloud update” that users won’t need to manually install; They are rolled out as soon as the engineering team marks them as ready and should bring minor but still welcome optimizations to the AI device.
